2004 Stainless Steel Awards
Overall Winner
Veritech
Project :
Design and manufacture of cartridge filers for kitchen fume extractor systems

Veritech
Manufacturing, which developed innovative cartridge filters for use in kitchen
fume systems, has been named the overall winner as well as winner in the
Products category of the Stainless Steel Awards.
These unique filters, manufactured
from unbrushed 304 stainless steel, were developed in Somerset West by a group
of engineers and scientists and are designed to remove condensable vapours from
kitchen fume extraction systems. They have proven to be more efficient than the
water wash systems conventionally used.
Veritech’s cartridge filters
present environmental advantages that enable users to meet new standards set by
air pollution regulations. Fewer pollutants will be exhausted in the air from
kitchen extraction systems in general, and duct cleaning and the use of strong
chemicals for fat/oil removal are greatly reduced. In addition, the fat that is
captured by the Veritech filter is retained inside the kitchen fume extraction
unit for easy disposal, making the unit easy to clean and reducing water
pollution.
The cartridge filter has also
undergone extensive grease-loading and flame tests to ensure it meets
international standards. Veritech is currently negotiating
working agreements to supply this innovative equipment to the international
Compass Group of companies and to German company Franke Foodservice Systems for
installation in kitchens for their main clients, Burger King and McDonalds. These new export contracts will
ensure further job creation at the company, which already employs 28 permanent
staff to manufacture this unique equipment using stainless steel curling,
bending and welding machines.
